The 500mm Mirror...

... has finally arrived!
Used it for the first time about 13 years ago.
I'll put it to the test during the next "We are Handsome" campaign tomorrow.
It's not the most user friendly thing... the mirror design allows it to be very small and light for a 500mm. Great! But that also means that putting in into focus is actual work.
And the F Stop is fixed at 8.
It comes with a set of five 39mm rear mount filters, UV and a B/W set.
Very sexy.

Pages Digital #92 out now

Shot this on my 1969 Leitax converted Leica Elmarit-R I 1:2.8 90mm lens. An all manual lens of course, it dictates a much slower pace - especially getting it into focus wide open. If you have Leica lenses head over to the wiki section of this page http://www.l-camera-forum.com/ . Although they are hard to handle if you are used to auto focus, it's even tougher after the conversion - you are shooting in constant stopped-down mode. Meaning at f11 in the studio it's pretty dark in your viewfinder...  frame, open up, focus, stop down, shoot... all handheld. I feel like a monkey in the zoo trying to keep its mind active - though nobody actually cares about how cool it really is... 42 year old lens? Come on, pretty cool!

Here's one of my beauty shots of Canadian artist Skeena Reece used on a banner by the Vancouver Art Gallery. I always love seeing my images when they are blown up huge, wish I could go and check it out.

behind the scenes

Just found this pic from a shoot I worked on with Henry Leutwyler years ago. Not long ago a I saw a bunch of assistants in an equipment room standing around the pieces that make up one of these 8x10 Sinar cameras. They had no clue how to put it together, let alone use it. I bet they would be wondering why the picture is flipped if they could set it up. Moving on I guess.
